Who we are

Charbit (the website at charbit.ai, the app at app.charbit.ai, and the Charbit apps for iOS and Android) is operated by Openalchemy Inc. ("Charbit", "we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we handle when you use Charbit and the choices you have.

Questions or requests: [email protected].

What we collect

  • Account — your email address and, if you choose, a name and profile picture. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash. If you sign in with Apple, Google, Yahoo! JAPAN or GitHub, we receive the account identifier, email address and name that the provider shares (Apple may give us a private relay address).
  • Birth date — asked once to apply our age rules (see "Children").
  • Profile — anything you add, such as a display name, pronouns, gender, bio, avatar and personas.
  • Conversations — your messages with characters and the characters’ replies, including voice messages and images you send. These are stored on our servers so they are available across your devices.
  • Memories — facts your characters remember about you, which you can view and delete in the app.
  • Content you create — characters, posts, comments, likes, follows, stories, songs, videos, gifts and other things you publish or save.
  • Files you upload — images, documents you add for search, and receipts you ask the accountant skill to read (including the amounts and items read from them).
  • Voice samples — if you clone a voice, the recording you provide.
  • Location — only when you tap the location button in a chat. The approximate place is attached to that message so the character can answer; we do not track your location in the background.
  • Connected services — if you connect Google Calendar we store an access token and your upcoming events (deleted one day after they start). Gmail, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox and similar connectors are read on your device; only items you choose to share (for example a file you upload) reach our servers.
  • Purchases — the product, status and store transaction identifiers of subscriptions and credit packs. We never receive your card number.
  • Activity — what you view, open, like or watch in the app (for example posts and videos), which we use to order your feed.
  • Technical data — server request logs (including IP address), push-notification tokens, and crash and performance reports from the iOS app (device model, OS version and app version).
  • Messages you send to other users — direct messages are end-to-end encrypted; our servers only relay the encrypted message until the recipient’s device collects it.

How we use it

  • To run Charbit: generate character replies, voices, images, songs and videos; remember what you told a character; show your feed and notifications.
  • To personalize what you see, such as ordering posts and videos by the characters you engage with.
  • To process purchases and keep your plan and credits correct.
  • To keep Charbit safe: apply age rules, review reports, enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and prevent abuse.
  • To fix bugs and improve the service.
  • To contact you about your account, such as email verification and password resets.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the content of your conversations for advertising.

AI processing

Your messages, the images and files you send, and voice samples are sent to the AI services that produce the reply, voice, transcription, translation or image you asked for. The main provider is the OpenAlchemy AI platform; some features use other providers listed below. Characters and everything they generate are AI output and may be inaccurate.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Charbit, only as needed for the feature you use, and with other users only when you choose to publish something.

  • AI providers — OpenAlchemy AI platform (chat, speech, voice cloning, translation, image reading, search embeddings); OpenAI (image generation and image understanding).
  • Search and data — Serper (web search when a character looks something up), RentCast and other listing sources (home search), Yahoo! JAPAN local search, Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap and BigDataCloud (places, maps and weather; they receive the location you share).
  • Sign-in — Apple, Google, Yahoo! JAPAN and GitHub, when you use them to sign in or connect an account.
  • Payments — Apple (App Store), Google (Google Play) and Stripe (web) process payments under their own privacy policies.
  • Infrastructure — Google Cloud (storage), our hosting providers and Cloudflare (network delivery and security), and our email provider.
  • Crash reporting — Sentry, for the iOS app.
  • Advertising — the free plan of the iOS app may show ads served by Google AdMob. Before the first ad, the app asks for your permission to track (Apple’s App Tracking Transparency). Only if you allow it may AdMob use your device’s advertising identifier to show more relevant ads; if you decline, ads are not personalised. You can change this any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Google may collect device information as described in its own policy. Pro members see no ads.
  • OpenAlchemy accounts — if you link an OpenAlchemy account, we exchange your account identifier and email and the credits you transfer.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or others, or as part of a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy continues to apply).

What other people can see

Characters you make public and the posts, comments, songs and videos you publish can be seen by other users and, through share links, by anyone. Your conversations with characters are private to you.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account exists, unless you delete it sooner (for example a memory, a post or a character). Some items expire on their own: calendar events one day after they start, undelivered direct messages after 30 days, password-reset links after one hour. Database backups are kept for up to 90 days.

When your account is deleted we delete your profile, conversations, memories, content, files and activity. We keep purchase records in a form no longer linked to you where accounting law requires it.

Your choices and rights

  • View, edit or delete your profile, memories, characters and posts in the app.
  • Disconnect connected services and sign-in methods in Settings.
  • Turn off push notifications in your device settings.
  • Delete your account from Settings → Delete account in the iOS or Android app, or by emailing [email protected] from your account email.
  • Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, at [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK, California or Japan) you may have additional rights, including to object to or restrict processing and to complain to a data protection authority.

Children

Charbit is not for children under 13. We ask for your birth date when you start, and accounts under 13 cannot use the service. Mature content is limited to users who are 18 or older. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

Charbit and its providers process information in the United States, Japan and other countries. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we rely on safeguards required by applicable law.

Security

We use encryption in transit, private storage with time-limited access links, hashed passwords and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. For material changes we will also notify you in the app or by email.
